Another successful Montrose Farmer’s Market is in the books. Although the temperature outside was more than warm ~ hot, actually, it was surprisingly comfortable inside the Landing. Folks were making their purchases, then eating their meal while enjoying the view of the Mississippi flowing past just outside the wall of windows.

The Market menu for next week will be maid rite sandwiches, macaroni salad, and desert bars, along with a choice of cold drinks. The Market is held each Tuesday from 4-6 p.m.

A larger selection of fresh produce is coming into the Market each week. This week’s newest was blueberries from Uncle Phil’s. With them just beginning to ripen, he will have a larger supply next week.

Several Montrose Market vendors offer more than produce. Kathy Hornung brings a wide variety of scented wax products for your home. Her selection includes hand poured Mason Jar Candles in 8 oz. and 16 oz., wax melts, room and linen spray, scent sachets/car fresheners, hand sanitizers, and goatsmilk soap in 160 different fragrances to choose from, including Bath and Body Works, Victoria Secret, Scentsy, Yankee, and traditional fragrances. All of her candles and waxes are double scented, which of course makes them last longer than most.

Kathy is now in her third year of being a vendor at the Montrose Market. She comes to this because, as she says, “Why not help support your local community, and it is one of the nicest markets in the area. Lots of people come every week, so it’s a good way for them to visit with everyone and get something to eat while you are there.”

Although Kathy works full time as a nurse, she started making candles as a hobby about 12 years ago, and has just expanded from there. She chose the name Olde Crow Candle Co. because she likes the primitive look and the Mason Jar for the candle container. She continues to make her products as a hobby, but it also helps out when the unexpected happens ~ you never know when you’re going to need a little extra income to help out.

In addition to being a vendor at the Montrose Market, Kathy participates in A Very Vintage Market, West Point Sweetcorn Festival, Montrose Watermelon Festival, Midwest Old Threshers, Van Buren Fall Festival (Bentonsport) and has products in a few stores, She will provide fundraisers for any school, group, or individual. Kathy will also make baskets with a variety of products selected by the customer for a specific dollar amount and fragrance. In addition to offering gift certificates, she will gift wrap a customer’s selection for Christmas, Birthdays, Mother’s Day or other special occasions. With repeat customers reaching out to her during the off season, her business has grown into a year round venture. Be sure to stop by Kathy’s table to check out her wide selection of products.
